Licki mats are one of my favourite enrichment products! I love putting different food items on it so the dogs get different tastes and textures. This keeps things interesting and diverse for their tongues and brains! . On this one, I put plain Greek yogurt, nutritional yeast, dried sardines, natural peanut butter, coconut oil, dried salmon treats, and banana. All yummy and healthy treats for the dogs! Then I pop it in the freezer overnight or for a few hours so it lasts much longer. They get it as a midday / nighttime snack or when I leave the house. This isn’t a meal replacement (I do balance out their meal amount if I plan on giving this to them). It’s so fun to come up with ideas of what to put on these! Get creative and have fun with it (just keep healthy!) . . . We can't recommend the lickimats from @crazycritterztoybox enough! They are a super easy way to help with administering spot-on treatments and in this case help with giving the cats a dose of Nutrigel. Nutrigel is a really great way to boost vitamin and minerals and is a high energy and palatable gel. We can't stress the importance of keeping on top of flea and worming treatments as cats can become anaemic and sick when they have a large flea and worm burden. Unfortunately our little guy Normal had a lot of fleas and eggs that spread through the house and had a population explosion in the warm and humid weather. Malt has arthritis and in addition to other medications, she is on adequan injections to help manage her pain. Prior to this video, I worked with Malt to create a treatment station which is the pink mat. I paired it with her favorite treats and the lickimat without doing any treatments. By doing this, I am putting money in her treatment bank and creating a positive association with the mat. Some treatments may be slightly uncomfortable, resulting in a small withdrawal from the bank of positive experiences but I have created reserves to minimize impact and keep it positive. You see in the video she chooses to go to the mat and remains there eating even after the injection, I also approached her from the side, changed the needle to a new needle after drawing it up from the vial, and used a touch gradient prior to and after giving the injection.
